People generally seek treatment for pain when pain becomes chronic or long term. The most important step to take when considering help for dealing with pain is to seek medical advice.

Pain is an important signal that something is wrong. Acute pain is short-lived, where as chronic or persistent pain may last for many years despite treatment. When chronic pain sufferers take long-term medicines or analgesics, unwanted side-effects add to their suffering. Persisting pain often leads to many lifestyle changes – things that may have been very important to you. This often leads to feelings of isolation helplessness and depression.

Studies have shown that anxiety and depression increases ones perception of pain. This can lead to unhelpful thoughts and beliefs that lead to excessive suffering. Pain can affect relationships especially communication, behaviour and overall loss of interest in others. What about sexual intimacy? Maybe it’s just too painful. By setting goals and working on beliefs and developing strategies there is hope.

Hypnosis has been found to reduce Cortisol levels in blood tests. It is high Cortisol levels that contribute to pain in Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue and Rheumatoid Arthritis. How you think about pain is very important. Self-Hypnosis enables you to feel more in control and gives hope that you can manage pain levels without using excessive amounts of pain relief medication that can have side effects and addictive properties.

With a few simple techniques and guidance to feel more empowered and in control rather than the pain controlling you change is possible.
