The subconscious mind stores all the memories associated with earlier developmental years up until this present time in our lives. What is also important to understand is that it is not only the memories that are stored but also how we perceived those events at the time. Often these perceptions or beliefs may not be available to us as the subconscious mind does such a good job in protecting the conscious mind. Even though the awareness of these contributing factors may not be available at a conscious level they influence behavioural responses. This is why working only at a conscious level only can make change very difficult, as there is often hidden agenda that we are not aware of on a day-to-day level.
